On this fun and fascinating walking tour, learn about how Chicago grew from swampland bordering Lake Michigan into the thriving metropolis that it is today. Over the course of two and a half hours, your guide will tell you gripping tales of Chicago history, supplemented by dozens of archival photos. As you wander, you can also count on seeing many of the Windy City’s most famous landmarks, from its just-completed Riverwalk to its soaring skyscrapers.  Tour includes short boat ride and trivia challenge!

Meet your guide at 1pm at the Wrigley Building Plaza, pick up a beverage from Peet’s Coffee & Tea, and listen as they introduce you to Chicago: a city that, in the space of only 200-odd years, grew from a swampy backwater into one of the world’s alpha cities. As part of the tour, you’ll be provided with a keepsake view book full of archival photos that will help bring Chicago’s rich history to life.

As you walk through the city on this 2.5-hour tour, your guide will share all kinds of fascinating Windy City tales, and will point out a number of famous landmarks. After a stroll across the city’s famous Michigan Avenue Bridge (recently renamed the DuSable Bridge), you’ll have the chance to meander down the Riverwalk, the city’s newly completed pedestrian walkway that hugs the Chicago River.

Admire the riverside sights, and learn about everything from Chicago’s early settlers to the Fort Dearborn Massacre of 1848, from the Great Chicago Fire to the 1893 World’s Fair. Your guide will also host trivia games — with prizes — to keep you entertained as you meander.

Finally, after an exciting walk along the river, hop into a water taxi and speed back towards your starting location at the Wrigley Building Plaza. All visitors are supplied with headsets to best hear the guide, and a restroom and refreshment intermission is also included in the tour itinerary.

Venture inside famous and lesser known Chicago landmarks, elegant lobbies, and underground corridors on this 2-hour walking tour. Your expert guide will use an educational dynamic to share insights about interior architectural features of this design-rich city — from mosaic domes to the sprawling Chicago Pedway System — bringing the details of the Windy City into vivid focus. Stop to admire Chase Tower, the former Marshall Field and Company Building, the Chicago Cultural Center, and more, including public art by Picasso and mosaics by Tiffany.

Set out in the morning or afternoon along this central business district, home to many of the city’s iconic structures. Expect to cover a half mile (0.8 km) during an easy 2-hour stroll with plenty of stops to focus on the visual experience of downtown Chicago and get in-depth perspectives on its history.

Enter into a church in a skyscraper, and slip inside the former Marshall Field and Company Building for a glimpse of the Tiffany & Co–designed ceiling decorating the atrium. Pass through the contemporary shopping and dining complex of Block 37 on State Street, and see the untitled 50-foot-tall (15-meter) Picasso sculpture at Daley Plaza.

Along the way, learn about the Windy City’s art history and architectural design with your expert tour guide, and view archival images of Chicago with maps, historic photos, and documentary video clips on shared ipads. You’ll also maneuver through the Chicago Pedway System — a network of climate-controlled underground concourses, passages and sky-bridges that connects buildings throughout downtown.

Your tour concludes at the Chicago Cultural Center, a Chicago Landmark building completed in 1897 and originally the city’s first central public library. Peer up at the marvelous stained glass dome before making your way to your next destination.
