Grab a few drinks while experiencing incredible architecture, historical stories of turn-of-the-century Chicago, and visual scavenger hunts.

This very special walking tour digs into how and why the 1893 World’s Fair captures imaginations more than any other event in Chicago history. Unlike other World’s Fair tours and Devil in the White City tours, which likely revolve around facts and trivia, you’ll dig deeper on this downtown tour. You'll visits some of the few remaining and spectacular buildings from the time of the World’s Fair, also known as the World's Columbian Exposition. The fairgrounds themselves were south of downtown, but you can best see the impact of the fair in the Loop. Here the architecture and landscape still show the World’s Fair imprint even today, nearly 125 years later. Beyond just looking at buildings from outside, this mostly indoor walking tour sees the beauty of architectural details within.

On this fun and insightful walking tour, you’ll venture into beautiful architectural spaces from the era. You will play a few thoughtfully designed games, like visual scavenger hunts. Along with guide commentary, your guide will show you photos and archival materials via shared iPads that illuminate this historic event of the 1893 World's Fair.

You will eat a couple light snacks and play a few educational games with prizes for the winning team. Plus, you can opt to get drinks (on you) at two stops. You will end in a building from 1893 that has numerous drinking options!

You can think of this 3-hour long walking tour as being 5% outdoors, 95% indoors, 20% clue-based games and visual scavenger hunts, 10% drinking time, and 100% awesome historical tour time. We know the math doesn’t add up – we hope you get the idea!

With just intermittent walks outside, the 1893 World’s Fair Tour makes for a great walking tour in all seasons. This tour makes the World’s Fair’s lasting impact come to life. We hope you’ll join us!

Drinks are not included in the cost of this tour. At the tour meeting spot, you are welcome to get a drink at the bar before check-in. To streamline the tour, your order will be taken, along with cash for your second drink at check-in ($6 for beer, $8 for wine, includes gratuity). At the third drink stop, you may independently purchase a beer, wine, or cocktail of your choice.
Two small snacks are included. Occasionally, vegetarian options will be available, otherwise, any other dietary restrictions will not be accommodated. If you are gluten-free, dairy-free, or have other allergies, we cannot make substitutions.

On this special holiday tour, you’ll see some classic Chicago holiday traditions and hear off-the-beaten path stories of Christmas' past. Instead of whizzing by Christmas lights from a bus, you’ll walk downtown Chicago to fully enjoy the spirit of the holidays. While the weather isn't predictable, you won’t get too cold! You’ll venture into a few warm locales and talk history over couple drinks. Non-drinkers are more than welcome, too, as this is more than a drinking tour.

You will hear some inside stories on this holiday lights tour! Hear about how Mayor Richard J. Daley saved the Christmas Parade and then how his son, Richard M., was almost awarded a stocking of coal for his affront to Christmas and Hanukkah. Hear the story of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’s birth in Chicago. You’ll even have an overview of the development of consumerism for Christmas. This walking tour is not your typical holiday lights tour of Chicago!

The holiday tour has some classic experiences, too. You’ll go into the former Marshall Field’s Department Store, where Chicago holiday traditions have a rich and long history. You’ll have your choice of a beer from the local Revolution Brewery or a glass of wine. While enjoying those drinks, you’ll gaze at the giant holiday tree in the historic Walnut Room and discover forgotten stories and make new memories.

Uncover and capture the hidden gems of Chicago's alleys on this 2-hour walking photography tour. Not every city has alleys and, many that do, would not or should not be walked through. Chicago’s alleys are an entirely different world and a part of the city many take for granted. Photographically, you'll find the alleys are an underrated jewel box of detail photos and upshots! Whether in the downtown or out in the neighborhoods, you'll discover some are fancier than others, some hold pieces of the city’s history, interesting fire escapes, graffiti, unexpected doors, signs, rust and grit…and yes, urban odors. Some city alleys have even hosted art events and block parties!

Maximum Group Size: 10

Meet your guide downtown in the Chicago Loop outside the Goodman Theatre to embark on this 2-hour walking tour of alleys normally considered useful only to garbage trucks, delivery drivers and vagrants. Bring your dSLR / Mirrorless camera or smartphone camera fully charged and ready to capture architecture, fire escapes, urban grit, ghost signs, interesting juxtapositions, graffiti / street art and much more.

Along the route through two sides of the Loop, you'll see the famous Chicago Theater, walk through a famous hotel, capture elevated train motion and stop by the city's smallest building, not to mention the amazing views of skyscrapers above and upshots to the sky! Pay attention as you pass the back sides of many historic buildings and gain a new perspective and appreciation for them. You'll photograph scenes and things normally thought to be ordinary or even ignored. You'll be challenged to create photos of subjects you may never have considered photographic.

Continuing South, you'll pass massive painted pieces from both international and local graffiti artists and observe the change in purpose from the Northern end of the Loop. Near the end of the route, you'll see a famous Blues club and will be near a couple of locally famous and historic restaurants. You'll finish the tour only a few blocks away from the Roosevelt train station where you can either continue toward Grant Park to explore on your own, find a great local place to eat or easily access the elevated 'L' train or subway or catch a taxi.
